What this screen captures
This screen surfaces U.S. stocks where insiders — officers, directors, and 10% owners — have been net buyers of open-market shares over the trailing 90 days, ranked by net shares as a percentage of effective float. It emphasizes conviction rather than dollar size: a small percentage-of-float purchase at a mid-cap can be more informative than a token buy at a mega-cap.
Only open-market, non-derivative purchases are counted, and net shares are divided by the effective float (using shares outstanding when reported float is unreliable on recent IPOs), so the ranking reflects how much of the freely tradable base insiders have actually absorbed.
What stands out
- Healthcare/biotech dominates the top of the list. Names like Scribe (SCTX), MapLight (MPLT), Braveheart (BRVE), and BlossomHill (BLSM) show crossover funds (OrbiMed, AH Bio, Catalyst) and 10% owners putting 3–68% of float to work. This is the signature of milestone-driven insider conviction — participants pre-funding a clinical readout or financing round. Heavy fund concentration, however, also carries exit risk.
- A strategic/contrarian energy thread. The Wilks family adding to ProFrac (ACDC) and insiders buying Borr Drilling (BORR) sit squarely in the structural oil/inflation trade — a rare case where insider buying and sector momentum point the same way.
- Founder- and strategic-aligned buying. Rady in American Assets Trust (AAT), the founder in Lifeway Foods (LWAY), Uber into Lime (LIME), and Gates' Cascade into Republic Services (RSG) are all examples of insiders with unique information acting on long-horizon conviction rather than short-term opportunism.
How to read the signal
Insider buying is a slow, structural signal — best used to confirm a thesis, not as a standalone timing tool. The most informative names are those where (a) multiple insiders or a cluster are buying, (b) the buyer has a history of being right, and (c) the buying aligns with a business catalyst rather than a falling knife.
