Insider buying on dips
Query: Stocks with heavy insider buying in the last 90 days while the share price fell · data as of 2026-10-02
Built an insider-conviction-in-weakness screen: 28 US stocks with 90-day open-market insider net buying ≥0.25% of effective float and >$250k net value, paired with a negative 3M/6M return and a downtrend or sub-150D-SMA price. Main table ranks by net shares bought as % of float (top: MPLT, JEF, GPI, ACDC, AVO); a second table isolates the ≥$5B large caps (JEF, LEN, RSG, GRAB). Enriched both tables with qualitative comments and a narrative on the setup. Note: the pre-built insider_net_buying_90d view threw a date-cast error, so the aggregate was computed directly with a normalized transaction-date parse.
Cluster of US stocks where insiders are buying in size while the share price falls — candidates for contrarian / insider-conviction setups. Main list covers all market caps; second table isolates the large-cap names.
Heavy Insider Buying Into Share-Price Weakness — October 2, 2026
| Symbol | Company | Sector | Industry | Market Cap | Last Price | 3M Return | 6M Return | 1M Return | % from 150D SMA | % from 52W High | Net Insider Shares (90d) | Net Insider Buy Value (90d) | Net Bought % of Float | Distinct Buyers | Insiders (net change) | Days Since Earnings | Comments |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MPLT | MapLight Therapeutics, Inc. - Common Stock | Health Care | Biotechnology | 5.458e+08 | 9.82 | -71.97% | -53.61% | -24.81% | -56.77% | -75.33% | 5.625e+06 | 6.554e+07 | 35.04% | 2 | Catalyst4, Inc. (10% Owner), Cox Troy (Director) | 49 | Clinical-stage biotech where the largest holders stepped in hard after a severe de-rating. Insider buying of this magnitude in a cash-burning name usually signals confidence in trial data timing or financing runway; the key risk is that the same cash needs could force dilution before a catalyst. |
| JEF | Jefferies Financial Group Inc. | Financials | Capital Markets | 9.35e+09 | 45.97 | -7.34% | 17.73% | -13.10% | -7.62% | -31.04% | 1.181e+07 | 6.427e+08 | 8.47% | 1 | SUMITOMO MITSUI FINANCIAL GROUP, INC. (Director) | 3 | A strategic 10%+ holder adding to a stake in a capital-markets bank that has been caught in the downdraft of rate-sensitive financials. This is a balance-sheet/long-term position rather than an insider sentiment read — the buyer's cost basis and any further accumulation matter more than a quick bounce. |
| GPI | Group 1 Automotive, Inc. | Consumer Discretionary | Auto & Truck Dealerships | 2.979e+09 | 249.84 | -15.65% | -23.88% | -9.61% | -18.04% | -44.53% | 7.2e+05 | 1.873e+08 | 7.31% | 1 | Conifer Management, L.L.C. (10% Owner) | 64 | Persistent accumulation by a single large holder across many transactions, in an auto-dealership group exposed to a softening consumer and tariff-driven margin pressure. Dealer earnings are highly cyclical, so this looks like a value bet on used-vehicle and service margins normalizing. |
| ACDC | ProFrac Holding Corp. - Class A Common Stock | Energy | Oil & Gas Equipment & Services | 8.341e+08 | 4.58 | -2.35% | -24.67% | -9.31% | -20.87% | -43.18% | 2.014e+06 | 9.754e+06 | 6.27% | 3 | THRC Holdings, LP (10% Owner), Wilks Dan H. (10% Owner), Wilks Matthew (Chief Executive Officer) | 56 | Multiple affiliated buyers in an oilfield-services name hit alongside the broader pressure-pumping complex. Insider conviction here is a bet on pressure-pumping pricing/supply discipline and rising completion activity rather than near-term commodity beta. |
| AVO | Mission Produce, Inc. | Consumer Staples | Food Distribution | 1.123e+09 | 12.81 | -3.61% | -11.29% | 0.31% | -0.30% | -16.49% | 2.422e+06 | 3.197e+07 | 5.16% | 1 | Globalharvest Holdings Venture Ltd (10% Owner) | 23 | A strategic holder buying in a global avocado distributor where pricing and Peruvian/Mexican supply dynamics drive the story. Avocado margins are notoriously volatile; insider support suggests confidence that supply normalization will repair margins. |
| LWAY | Lifeway Foods, Inc. | Consumer Staples | Packaged Foods | 3.204e+08 | 21.21 | -28.44% | -3.68% | -19.01% | -16.49% | -34.40% | 2.486e+05 | 6.177e+06 | 3.82% | 2 | Divisadero Street Capital Management, LP, SMOLYANSKY JULIE (CEO, President and Secretary) | 50 | Founder/family and a value fund buying into a family-controlled kefir maker that has corrected sharply. Small float plus concentrated ownership means each purchase moves the needle — the risk is packaged-food demand softness weighing on the category. |
| CBIO | Crescent Biopharma, Inc. - Common Stock | Health Care | Biotechnology | 5.319e+08 | 14.32 | -15.57% | -26.19% | -22.76% | -16.74% | -46.92% | 8.534e+05 | 1.238e+07 | 3.16% | 1 | Fairmount Funds Management LLC | 64 | A healthcare-focused fund providing fresh capital-adjacent support to a recently merged biopharma. Single-buyer clusters in micro-cap biotech are often tied to financing or pipeline conviction; watch for data readouts and cash runway. |
| LEN | Lennar Corporation | Consumer Discretionary | Residential Construction | 1.923e+10 | 79.81 | -8.40% | -6.68% | -4.51% | -8.85% | -40.05% | 5.084e+06 | 4.027e+08 | 2.73% | 1 | BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY INC (10% Owner) | 15 | Berkshire's building stake is the headline signal — a blue-chip value buyer leaning into a homebuilder as affordability and rates pressure the group. Residential construction is a pure rate-sensitivity trade, so any easing in mortgage rates is the natural catalyst. |
| RSG | Republic Services, Inc. | Industrials | Waste Management | 6.417e+10 | 209.56 | -2.34% | -5.83% | -5.82% | -2.25% | -9.78% | 6.254e+06 | 1.38e+09 | 2.05% | 1 | CASCADE INVESTMENT, L.L.C. | 56 | A very large, steady insider buyer in a defensive waste-services compounder that trades at a premium multiple. This is less a contrarian signal than a long-duration anchor position — the stock's stability gives it a low-beta profile versus the rest of this list. |
| AAT | American Assets Trust, Inc. | Real Estate | REIT - Diversified | 1.672e+09 | 21.55 | -13.03% | 18.94% | -2.31% | -0.15% | -16.63% | 8.89e+05 | 2.006e+07 | 1.74% | 1 | RADY ERNEST S (Executive Chairman) | 65 | Executive Chairman accumulating in a West Coast REIT caught in the broad real-estate selloff. With office-to-mixed-use exposure, the thesis rests on leasing recovery and asset-sale values; REITs remain rate-sensitive here. |
| GLIBK | Liberty Capital Corporation - Series C GCI Group Common Stock | Communication Services | Telecom Services | 9.274e+08 | 23.24 | 7.79% | -36.64% | -11.20% | -17.01% | -41.96% | 5.432e+05 | 1.358e+07 | 1.67% | 1 | MALONE JOHN C | — | Media-investor buying in the GCI Liberty complex. These tracking-stock structures often trade at discounts to underlying asset value; insider buying hints at a perception that the discount is too wide. |
| GSHD | Goosehead Insurance, Inc. | Financials | Insurance Brokers | 1.626e+09 | 45.51 | -14.13% | 7.23% | -33.85% | -8.67% | -41.93% | 3.416e+05 | 1.855e+07 | 1.65% | 2 | Durable Capital Partners LP (10% Owner), Lane Peter R. | 71 | Two buyers including a growth fund in an insurance-broker franchisor that has been one of the hardest-hit financials — the sector ranked near the bottom on 3-month returns. Franchise royalty models are high-margin but sensitive to agent count growth and premium softness. |
| BORR | Borr Drilling Limited | Energy | Oil & Gas Drilling | 1.206e+09 | 3.91 | -12.53% | -32.93% | -18.71% | -20.32% | -40.85% | 3.52e+06 | 1.476e+07 | 1.51% | 3 | Currie Jeffrey, Morand De Oliveira Bruno (Chief Executive Officer), Troim Tor Olav | 51 | CEO and chairman buying into an offshore driller as the oil-equipment complex sold off hard. Jack-up dayrates and contract backlog are the swing factors; this is a deep-cyclical bet on offshore capex staying firm. |
| IMTX | Immatics N.V. - Ordinary Shares | Health Care | Biotechnology | 1.155e+09 | 7.59 | -24.02% | -26.67% | -20.11% | -22.83% | -36.06% | 8.631e+05 | 7.5e+06 | 1.23% | 1 | PERCEPTIVE ADVISORS LLC (Director) | 45 | A specialist biotech investor supporting a German immuno-oncology name at depressed levels. Clinical catalysts and partnership news typically drive these micro-caps; operational execution on pipeline milestones is the risk. |
| NPB | Northpointe Bancshares, Inc. | Financials | Banks - Regional | 5.308e+08 | 15.35 | -19.19% | -11.85% | -9.12% | -12.18% | -20.51% | 1.633e+05 | 2.75e+06 | 1.22% | 1 | Williams Charles Alan (CHAIRMAN & CEO) | 73 | Chairman/CEO buying into a regional bank — one of the most rate- and credit-sensitive corners of the market, and a sector that has de-rated broadly. Book-value support and deposit stability are what matter here. |
| CDNL | Cardinal Infrastructure Group I | Industrials | Engineering & Construction | 6.587e+08 | 30.73 | -61.63% | -27.13% | -13.29% | -38.85% | -67.42% | 2.216e+05 | 8.541e+06 | 1.19% | 7 | Lee Richard Melvin Jr., Rowe Michael Bruce Jr. (Chief Financial Officer), Spivey Jeremy Simmons (Chief Executive Officer), Wimmer Richard Bennett, Wood Anthony Leon Jr., Wood Benjamin (Chief Operating Officer), Zelman Ivy | 52 | An unusually wide cluster — CEO, CFO, COO and multiple directors — all buying a freshly listed infrastructure/construction name after a dramatic de-rating. Broad executive buying right after a big price decline is a strong conviction signal, though new-issue lockups and float dynamics can distort the picture. |
| ALMS | Alumis Inc. - Common Stock | Health Care | Biotechnology | 8.866e+08 | 6.85 | -74.29% | -68.91% | -33.82% | -69.32% | -77.39% | 9.867e+05 | 1.073e+07 | 1.02% | 1 | AKKARAJU SRINIVAS (Director) | 49 | A single large healthcare investor buying a beaten-down immunology biotech. This is a high-volatility, catalyst-driven name where cash runway and clinical timelines dominate the outlook. |
| COUR | Coursera, Inc. | Consumer Staples | Education & Training Services | 1.438e+09 | 5.02 | -14.92% | -14.19% | -17.84% | -11.95% | -55.22% | 2.333e+06 | 1.136e+07 | 0.99% | 1 | Pale Fire Capital SE | 64 | A European fund adding in an online-education platform facing AI-driven disruption of its core content model. Insider support contrasts with the structural question of whether generative AI deflates demand for courses. |
| OPFI | OppFi Inc. | Financials | Credit Services | 5.087e+08 | 5.97 | -40.36% | -20.61% | -17.54% | -28.26% | -47.54% | 2.082e+05 | 1.489e+06 | 0.62% | 1 | Schwartz Todd G. (Chief Executive Officer) | 52 | CEO buying persistently in a small-cap consumer-credit lender. Credit quality and funding costs are the two swing factors for this sub-sector; insider buying suggests confidence that loss rates are manageable through the cycle. |
| XRN | Chiron Real Estate Inc. Common Stock | Real Estate | REIT - Healthcare Facilities | 4.925e+08 | 34.01 | -7.70% | 5.63% | -7.42% | -3.22% | -10.73% | 7.152e+04 | 2.579e+06 | 0.58% | 4 | Decker Mark Okey Jr (CEO and President), Fitzgerald Charles, Roseth Aaron Robert (COO), Whitlock Matthew Fitzsimmons (Chief Investment Officer) | 57 | A cluster of four insiders — CEO, COO, CIO and a director — buying into a healthcare-facilities REIT. Executives buying together shortly after a de-rating is a meaningful alignment signal in a sector pressured by financing costs. |
| GOLD | Gold.com, Inc. | Financials | Capital Markets | 1.23e+09 | 42.29 | -1.52% | 5.64% | -1.01% | -0.86% | -34.07% | 1e+05 | 3.93e+06 | 0.50% | 1 | Tether Global Investments Fund, S.I.C.A.F., S.A. (10% Owner) | 29 | A crypto-adjacent investment fund taking a position in a capital-markets name. These cross-holdings are often strategic rather than fundamentals-driven; the tie between digital-asset balance sheets and traditional financials is the angle to watch. |
| RLMD | Relmada Therapeutics, Inc. - Common Stock | Health Care | Biotechnology | 3.84e+08 | 3.6 | -43.13% | -48.50% | -20.70% | -39.04% | -54.20% | 4e+05 | 1.672e+06 | 0.48% | 2 | Shenouda Maged (Chief Financial Officer), TRAVERSA SERGIO (Chief Executive Officer) | 56 | CFO and CEO buying into a clinical-stage biotech that has fallen hard. As with most micro-cap biotech here, the entire thesis hinges on trial outcomes and whether existing cash covers the next data point. |
| DFH | Dream Finders Homes, Inc. | Consumer Discretionary | Residential Construction | 9.733e+08 | 10.75 | -34.37% | -23.60% | -19.66% | -25.74% | -59.31% | 1.03e+05 | 1.428e+06 | 0.39% | 2 | BECKWITT RICHARD (Director), Sturm Len (Director) | 64 | Two directors buying into a homebuilder — same rate-sensitivity thesis as the larger peer on this list. Smaller builders carry more balance-sheet and land-option risk, so affordability trends hit them harder. |
| CHY | Calamos Convertible and High Income Fund - Closed End Fund | Financials | Asset Management | 9.427e+08 | 11.72 | -11.19% | 8.86% | -6.83% | -4.25% | -14.76% | 2.9e+05 | 7.25e+06 | 0.36% | 1 | MetLife Investment Management, LLC (10% Owner) | — | A large institutional holder adding to a closed-end convertible fund. For CEFs, the insider signal is more about the fund's discount to NAV than operating fundamentals — a bet on mean reversion of the discount. |
| GRAB | Grab Holdings Limited | Information Technology | Software - Application | 1.26e+10 | 3.08 | -20.00% | -14.92% | -12.75% | -14.00% | -51.80% | 1.065e+07 | 3.074e+07 | 0.36% | 2 | Hungate Alexander Charles (President and COO), Tan Anthony Ping Yeow (Chief Executive Officer) | 59 | President/COO and CEO buying into a Southeast Asian super-app/platform that has been a persistent de-rating story. The buy is a bet on ride-hailing/fintech profitability ramp and continued loss narrowing. |
| RWT | Redwood Trust, Inc. | Real Estate | REIT - Mortgage | 4.434e+08 | 3.53 | -18.86% | -32.33% | -17.78% | -25.50% | -47.16% | 3.492e+05 | 1.353e+06 | 0.31% | 6 | Abate Christopher J (Chief Executive Officer), Carillo Brooke (Chief Financial Officer), KUBICEK GREG H, Macomber Sasha G. (Chief Human Resource Officer), Robinson Dashiell I (President), Stone Andrew P (Chief Legal Officer) | 66 | Six executives — CEO, CFO, President, CLO and others — collectively buying into a mortgage REIT. The whole management team leaning in is notable, though mortgage REITs remain highly sensitive to spreads and rate volatility. |
| EIKN | Eikon Therapeutics, Inc. - Common Stock | Health Care | Biotechnology | 3.97e+08 | 7.33 | -39.07% | -25.96% | -35.59% | -29.69% | -54.92% | 8.92e+04 | 1.031e+06 | 0.30% | 1 | Column Group IV GP, LP (10% Owner) | 49 | A venture-style fund buying into an early-stage biotech. Very much a high-risk, binary-outcome situation where insider support reflects pipeline conviction rather than near-term earnings. |
| AMRC | Ameresco, Inc. | Industrials | Engineering & Construction | 1.145e+09 | 21.57 | -20.26% | -12.28% | -1.15% | -17.75% | -50.10% | 8.102e+04 | 1.915e+06 | 0.25% | 4 | Cox Brian C, Miller Jennifer L, Sakellaris George P (Chief Executive Officer), Sutton Joseph W. | 59 | A cluster of four insiders including the CEO buying into an energy-efficiency and infrastructure services firm. Project execution and backlog conversion are the swing factors for this asset-light engineering model. |

(Director) | The only large-cap financial here — a strategic holder building a stake while the capital-markets group sits at the bottom of sector performance. This is a long-horizon balance-sheet conviction bet on the franchise. |
| LEN | Lennar Corporation | Consumer Discretionary | Residential Construction | 1.923e+10 | 79.81 | -8.40% | -6.68% | -4.51% | -8.85% | -40.05% | 5.084e+06 | 4.027e+08 | 2.73% | 1 | BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY INC (10% Owner) | Blue-chip value buying in a leading homebuilder amid affordability pressure. Of the large caps on this list, this is the cleanest rate-sensitivity play — mortgage-rate relief would be the obvious catalyst. |
| RSG | Republic Services, Inc. | Industrials | Waste Management | 6.417e+10 | 209.56 | -2.34% | -5.83% | -5.82% | -2.25% | -9.78% | 6.254e+06 | 1.38e+09 | 2.05% | 1 | CASCADE INVESTMENT, L.L.C. | A very large, steady insider position in a defensive waste-services compounder. Low-beta ballast relative to the rest of the screen; the buying looks like a long-duration anchor rather than a tactical call. |
| GRAB | Grab Holdings Limited | Information Technology | Software - Application | 1.26e+10 | 3.08 | -20.00% | -14.92% | -12.75% | -14.00% | -51.80% | 1.065e+07 | 3.074e+07 | 0.36% | 2 | Hungate Alexander Charles (President and COO), Tan Anthony Ping Yeow (Chief Executive Officer) | Founder-led leadership buying into a Southeast Asian platform still in its profitability ramp. The bet is on narrowing losses and fintech monetization; it is the highest-growth profile among the large caps here. |
Insider Conviction in Falling Stocks
Insider buying into weakness — what this screen is really showing
Corporate insiders buy for one reason: they think their stock is mispriced. When that buying appears while the price is falling, it's one of the few genuinely contrarian signals available, because the insiders know more about the business than the tape does. This screen pairs meaningful open-market insider purchases over the last 90 days (>0.25% of effective float and >$250k net value) with a stock that is in a downtrend or trading below its 150-day average.
The composition is instructive. The list is dominated by micro- and small-cap biotech (MPLT, CBIO, IMTX, ALMS, EIKN, RLMD) — where management buying is common around cash-runway or data-catalyst anxiety — and by rate- and credit-sensitive financials and REITs (JEF, GSHD, NPB, OPFI, AAT, XRN, RWT, CHY, GOLD). That mirrors the market backdrop: real estate, financials and utilities are the worst-ranked sectors on 3-month returns, while the drawdowns are concentrated in names whose earnings power depends on the cost of capital.
Where conviction looks strongest. Look for clusters rather than single buyers: RWT (six executives), CDNL (CEO, CFO, COO plus four more), AMRC and XRN (four each), ACDC (three affiliated holders). Broad executive buying after a sharp de-rating is a stronger tell than one deep-pocketed institution rebalancing.
Where it looks structural rather than directional. Several entries are large strategic or institutional holders rather than operating insiders — RSG, JEF, AVO, CHY, GPI. For those, the purchase may reflect mandate or ownership-structure reasons rather than a view on the next two quarters.
The large-cap table is thin for a reason. Splitting the same criteria at ≥$5B leaves just a handful of names (JEF, LEN, RSG, GRAB) — large-cap insiders rarely buy in size into declines. When they do, the signal is worth more precisely because it's rare: Berkshire's accumulating stake in LEN and a huge sustained position in RSG stand out as value/quality leaning, while GRAB is the growth-side counterpart.
Caveats. Insider buying is a long-horizon tell, not a timing tool — insiders routinely buy all the way down. Check whether the decline reflects a fixable derating or a broken business model, and whether a cash-constrained biotech is buying ahead of a dilutive raise. This screen is a starting universe for research, not a signal to buy.
