Breakout stocks
Query: Breakout stocks with relative volume > 1.2 · data as of 2026-10-02
Built a breakout screen of 18 US equities with an active chart-pattern/level break (resistance, triangle, channel, or support breaks) and relative volume >1.2x, sorted by momentum potential desc with relative volume as tiebreaker. Table shows symbol, name, sector, industry, theme, breakout type, 1D/1M/6M returns, relative volume, momentum potential, % from 52W high, % above 150D SMA, days since earnings, market cap and P/E, with per-row qualitative commentary and a takeaway narrative noting the split between genuine upside continuation setups (HPE, ARW, IBRX) and high-volume support breakdowns.
Breakout screen: US stocks with an active chart-pattern or level break and above-average relative volume (>1.2x). Sorted by momentum potential.
Breakout screen with volume confirmation
What this screen does. It surfaces US equities where a precomputed technical breakout flag is still active on the latest session — resistance breaks, ascending / symmetrical triangle breaks, sideways-channel breaks and support breakdowns — and where the tape confirmed the move with relative volume above 1.2x the 60-day average. Names are ranked by momentum potential (a 0–100 score blending trend and cash-flow signals), with relative volume as the tiebreaker.
How to read it. Two very different cohorts sit under one label. Upside breaks with an intact uptrend and price near highs (HPE, ARW, IBRX) are continuation setups; downside support breaks (GRND, MRP, SNY, GSK) are high-volume distribution events that screen highly on momentum score only because the score is not direction-aware. Check the Breakout Signal column and the distance from the 150-day average before acting — a support break below a falling 150-day SMA is a warning, not an entry.
Backdrop. The tape is in a tactical bounce inside a market that has spent a month distributing: participation improved and Technology is the only sector with positive 1-month average returns, while semis/storage, healthcare and rate-sensitive real estate lag. That split shows up here — the genuine upside breakouts cluster in AI compute and electronic distribution, while the breakdowns sit in Chinese ADRs, large-cap pharma and residential REITs. Note the screen is small (18 names) because only a handful of stocks combine a live break with volume confirmation; requeueing upside-only names with a flat-to-rising 150-day average is the higher-quality subset.
Technically breaking out on strong volume
| Symbol | Company | Sector | Industry | Theme | Breakout Signal | 1D Return | 1M Return | 6M Return | Relative Volume | Momentum Potential | % from 52W High | % above 150D SMA | Days Since Earnings | Market Cap | P/E (TTM) | Comments |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GRND | Grindr Inc. | Information Technology | Software - Application | Dating Apps | Support break | -5.22% | -14.29% | 10.53% | 2.1318 | 94.1 | -25.14% | -4.55% | 56 | 2.334e+09 | 28.57 | Support failure in a name that had been one of the better software recoveries — the break lands with no obvious fundamental catalyst, so it looks like holder capitulation after a run rather than news. Watch whether the former range floor gets reclaimed quickly; failure to do so opens the gap below. |
| MRP | Millrose Properties, Inc. | Real Estate | REIT - Residential | Retail REITs | Support break | -2.34% | -20.25% | -8.57% | 5.8291 | 87.7 | -25.54% | -13.62% | 59 | 4.086e+09 | 8.57 | Highest relative volume in the group on a downside break in a residential REIT spun out of Lennar land assets. Heavy-volume breakdowns in REITs often reflect distribution/dividend or capital-allocation overhang rather than operations, but with the sector itself the worst 1-month performer, the tape is fighting the name too. |
| HPE | Hewlett Packard Enterprise Comp | Information Technology | Communication Equipment | Data Center & Enterprise Networking | Resistance break | 7.36% | 34.10% | 183.25% | 1.4185 | 84.2 | 0.00% | 66.91% | 29 | 9.203e+10 | 64.79 | Clean upside continuation — record highs on the back of a large AI-rack order from a cloud provider plus a raised networking growth outlook, with sell-side targets moving up behind it. The debate is now whether networking and liquid-cooling attach rates can keep compounding, since the server hardware itself remains a low-margin business. |
| ARW | Arrow Electronics, Inc. | Information Technology | Electronics & Computer Distribution | Electrical & Electronic Distribution | Resistance break | 4.48% | 16.28% | 65.93% | 2.0267 | 81.7 | 0.00% | 22.83% | 56 | 1.232e+10 | 15.46 | Breaking out at new highs on triple-digit earnings growth in a distribution franchise that is a direct beneficiary of the electronic-component upcycle; electrical/electronic distribution is one of the strongest sub-industry themes on a 1-month view. Cyclical distribution margins are thin, so the risk is inventory and pricing if the component cycle rolls over. |
| BCH | Banco De Chile | Financials | Banks - Regional | Latin American Banks | Support break | -1.23% | -9.18% | 5.80% | 2.2987 | 72.3 | -16.98% | -1.69% | 63 | 2.031e+10 | 14.75 | Chilean bank breaking support with Latin American financials broadly out of favour — this is a rate and macro story (Chilean easing cycle, copper-linked domestic economy) more than a company one. Regional bank ADRs can stay technically broken for long stretches while the FX and rate backdrop resets. |
| IIPR | Innovative Industrial Propertie | Real Estate | REIT - Industrial | Retail REITs | Support break | -0.94% | -7.89% | 7.48% | 1.2647 | 55.4 | -21.88% | -5.74% | 59 | 1.393e+09 | 11.43 | Cannabis REIT losing its floor as the sector waits on federal rescheduling progress that keeps slipping; the tenant concentration and lease-coverage questions are the persistent bear case. A break here traps income holders who bought the yield. |
| MSM | MSC Industrial Direct Company, | Industrials | Industrial Distribution | Equipment Rental Services | Resistance break | 1.26% | 11.72% | 46.52% | 1.2151 | 55.2 | 0.00% | 17.89% | 93 | 6.584e+09 | 31.43 | Resistance break at new highs with a symmetrical triangle resolving upward, though the fundamental picture is soft — industrial distribution demand is still in a modest destocking hangover. This is being driven by an industrial/reshoring capital-spending read rather than near-term earnings, so it is a positioning trade with a wide stop. |
| IBRX | ImmunityBio, Inc. | Health Care | Biotechnology | Oncology Therapeutics | Resistance break | 10.83% | 29.37% | 40.89% | 3.1045 | 51 | -10.95% | 30.23% | 59 | 1.09e+10 | — | Momentum-driven breakout in a clinical-stage immunotherapy name: clearing a well-watched technical ceiling triggered the squeeze, with attention on the commercial ramp of its lead bladder-cancer therapy and the chairman's expanding biotech footprint as a read-through for partnership optionality. No earnings support behind the move, so the pattern, not the fundamentals, is the risk control here. |
| NBTX | Nanobiotix S.A. | Health Care | Biotechnology | Oncology Therapeutics | Support break | -7.71% | -38.20% | -15.79% | 1.7321 | 46.6 | -53.24% | -29.83% | 3 | 1.842e+09 | — | Just reported and broke support hard — a post-print technical failure in a small-cap oncology name, which usually signals that guidance or a trial readout disappointed expectations. Recently reported names carry headline risk for weeks, and the ADR structure adds FX and liquidity noise. |
| TIGR | UP Fintech Holding Limited | Financials | Capital Markets | Asset Management | Support break | -2.58% | -13.15% | -34.80% | 1.2633 | 38.3 | -62.59% | -25.07% | 37 | 7.482e+08 | 6.71 | Chinese online brokerage breaking down with the broader China ADR complex, which is the weakest major country equity on a 1-month view. Trading-volume-linked revenue is highly geared to retail risk appetite in China, so this one lives and dies with sentiment toward onshore equities. |
| ACRS | Aclaris Therapeutics, Inc. - Common Stock | Health Care | Biotechnology | Autoimmune & Immunology Therapies | Support break | -0.45% | -28.96% | 4.52% | 2.7109 | 36.2 | -32.82% | -9.44% | 57 | 6.462e+08 | — | Break below support on unusually heavy volume for a micro-cap biotech — a breakdown of this size in a clinical-stage name often reflects dilution or pipeline timing concerns rather than a clean technical signal. Liquidity is thin enough that the volume reading overstates real institutional participation. |
| ONT | Onterris, Inc. | Industrials | Waste Management | Management & Strategy Consulting | Support break | -0.16% | -26.66% | -44.23% | 1.4011 | 33.9 | -57.53% | -33.96% | 57 | 4.463e+08 | — | Support break in a thinly traded industrial small cap well off its high. With no analyst coverage anchoring value, price action is dominated by a handful of holders; breakdowns here tend to persist until a strategic or financing event resets the story. |
| SNY | Sanofi | Health Care | Drug Manufacturers - General | Autoimmune & Immunology Therapies, Neurology & Rare Diseases | Support break | -1.84% | -10.23% | -12.02% | 1.5126 | 28 | -23.73% | -8.21% | 64 | 1.014e+11 | 21.35 | Large-cap pharma selling off through support as defensive healthcare gives back its earlier leadership and the market rotates toward tech. Sanofi's story hinges on the Dupixent franchise and a pipeline refresh, so the technical break is more about sector rotation and rate-sensitive dividend math than about drug news. |
| GDS | GDS Holdings Limited | Information Technology | Information Technology Services | Data Center & Enterprise Networking | Support break | -7.48% | -10.53% | -30.92% | 2.1879 | 20.6 | -41.98% | -23.87% | 50 | 5.524e+09 | 12.2 | China data-center operator breaking down despite being in the AI-adjacent data-center networking theme — evidence that capital markets are paying for supply-constrained compute and networking, not China capacity build-outs. Funding costs and utilization ramp remain the swing factors. |
| GSK | GSK plc | Health Care | Drug Manufacturers - General | Pharmaceuticals, Biopharma Drug Discovery Platforms | Support break | -0.32% | -6.76% | -15.53% | 1.4425 | 19.5 | -23.13% | -9.05% | 66 | 1.015e+11 | 14.74 | UK pharma losing support as healthcare underperforms and GSK works through litigation overhangs plus a thin near-term catalyst calendar. Cheap valuation has not been enough to arrest the drift — value traps in large-cap pharma often stay technically broken for quarters. |
| MAT | Mattel, Inc. | Consumer Discretionary | Leisure | Hasbro & Multi-Brand Toys | Sideways channel break up | 1.53% | 4.30% | 6.34% | 3.7369 | 12.2 | -31.09% | 4.85% | 58 | 4.363e+09 | 11.4 | Volatile high-volume punch out of a channel top on no major company news — this is a heavily shorted, takeover-speculation name where positioning drives the tape. Toy-sector holiday order timing is the fundamental swing factor, and the pattern gives back fast if the bid fades. |
| WRD | WeRide Inc. - American Depositary Shares | Information Technology | Software - Application | Electric Vehicle Makers | Support break | -3.37% | -12.91% | -35.66% | 1.5954 | 11.7 | -59.41% | -23.10% | 51 | 1.653e+09 | — | Autonomous-driving ADR breaking support with the EV-maker theme down sharply over the month. Pre-revenue robotaxi names are funded by capital-markets access, so a broken chart and a weak theme together raise the cost of future raise. |
| PONY | Pony AI Inc. - American Depositary Shares | Information Technology | Information Technology Services | Electric Vehicle Makers | Support break | -2.72% | -13.66% | -34.16% | 1.5066 | 7.5 | -74.77% | -30.38% | 45 | 2.642e+09 | — | Deepest drawdown from its high in the list, and still breaking support — robotaxi ADRs are being repriced as the market questions timelines and capital needs. Any partnership or commercial milestone is the only realistic catalyst that could reverse this. |
