Rare earth stocks
Query: Rare earth stocks · data as of 2026-10-12
Built a rare earth & critical minerals screen: 30 stocks (from mega-cap diversified miners and copper majors to pure-play RE names — MP Materials, USA Rare Earth, Energy Fuels, NioCorp, Ramaco, Critical Metals, Materion, ATI) ranked by market cap with momentum, valuation, revenue growth and per-name rare-earth exposure notes; an industry/theme heatmap sized by market cap with 1D/1M/6M/1Y toggles; and a 9-fund ETF table (REMX, REXC, SETM, URA, URNM, NLR, LIT, COPX, ICOP) with AUM, expense ratio, returns and top holdings. Narrative flags the ongoing de-rating of pre-revenue developers versus resilient cash-generative copper/specialty-materials names.
Rare earth and critical-minerals complex, screened by theme/industry tags and verified against key North American names (MP Materials, USA Rare Earth, Energy Fuels, NioCorp, Ramaco, Materion, ATI). 30 stocks ranked by market cap with momentum, valuation and rare-earth exposure notes, plus an industry/theme heatmap and the dedicated rare-earth/critical-minerals ETF set. Data as of October 12, 2026.

Takeaway
Rare Earths & Critical Minerals: An Early-Cycle Shakeout in a Structural Story
The complex is going through a violent de-rating after a multi-quarter policy-driven run. Rare-earth and critical-mineral ETFs are among the worst performers on our one-month leaderboard, and the speculative developers (USA Rare Earth, Critical Metals, IperionX, NioCorp, Ramaco) are down hardest — a classic unwind of narrative-driven, pre-revenue names as capital gets more expensive and investors demand nearer-term cash flows.
What is holding up. The cash-generative, diversified end of the list is where the money has gone quiet. Copper majors (Southern Copper, Freeport) and diversified miners (BHP, Rio Tinto) remain supported by a copper price that is still positive over the year and by the electrification demand pull. Specialty materials names that sell into defense, aerospace and semiconductor supply chains (ATI, Materion) have posted some of the strongest medium- and long-term returns in the group without the binary project risk.
The rare-earth core. MP Materials remains the bellwether — the only scaled US rare-earth miner, with Mountain Pass, a DoD partnership, an NdPr price floor, and a magnet buildout. Its sharp pullback is the market questioning the timeline of the Western mine-to-magnet chain rather than the policy thesis. USA Rare Earth (Round Top + Stillwater magnets), Energy Fuels (heavy rare-earth processing at White Mesa), NioCorp (niobium/scandium/REE at Elk Creek) and Ramaco (Brook Mine) are the purest developers; each is pre-revenue and financing-sensitive, so position sizing matters more than conviction.
Uranium is adjacent, not identical. Cameco, NexGen, Centrus, Uranium Energy and Uranium Royalty trade with the same energy-security theme but a different commodity cycle; the group is down hard over six months, so it is a distinct bet, not a rare-earth substitute.
Risks and setup. The sector is highly policy-levered (government equity stakes, price floors, EXIM/DoD lending) and acutely sensitive to China's export-control posture — headlines can cut both ways. With dispersion this extreme, the higher-quality, cash-flowing names are the lower-volatility expression, while the developers offer the highest torque if financing and permitting milestones land. Rare-earth ETFs (REMX, REXC) are the diversified, single-ticker way to express the theme without single-project risk, though both are heavily weighted to a handful of names and carry meaningful international exposure.
