New enrichment commentary applied to all theme rows and ETFs plus overview and positioning narratives.
As of October 13, 2026, the strongest US mega-trends by 6-month momentum are Cybersecurity, Cloud & Enterprise Software and the AI Datacenter buildout. Semiconductor capex remains a battleground — strong on the month but losing its 150-day trend — while Power & Electrification, Defense/Space and Clean Energy & EV sit in drawdowns as higher rates pressure long-duration themes.
Mega-Trends Ranked by 6M Momentum
| Mega-Trend / Theme | Description | Avg 1M Return | Avg 6M Return | % above 150D SMA | Avg Revenue Growth | Members | Market Cap ($B) | Comments |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cybersecurity | Security software and identity platforms riding rising enterprise spend and AI-era threat complexity. | 6.71% | 76.18% | 24.46% | 21.13% | PANW, CRWD, FTNT, NET, CRWV, OKTA, ZS, RBRK, GEN, CHKP, SAIL, NTSK, S, QLYS, CVLT, VRNS, BB, TENB, YOU, NTCT, CLBT, ALRM, ATEN, RDVT, RDWR, RSKD, RPD, MITK, OSPN, CGNT, ALLT, TLS | 1,107 | The cleanest trend in the book: security is now a non-discretionary budget line as AI-generated attack surfaces multiply. Platform consolidation favors the bundled vendors, and the group's premium valuation is the main risk if enterprise IT spend slows. |
| Cloud & Enterprise Software | Hyperscale cloud infrastructure and subscription software powering digital enterprise workloads. | 2.94% | 50.71% | 18.17% | 13.86% | MSFT, ORCL, CRM, SAP, NOW, SNOW, ADBE, INTU, TEAM, VEEV, ADSK, WDAY, TWLO, ROP, MDB, ZM, VRSN, PTC, SSNC, DT, GWRE, DOCU, GDDY, MANH, FROG, TYL, FIG, HUBS, ESTC, YMM, GTLB, ZETA, DBX, NICE, RNG, GLBE, DSGX, PEGA, BOX, KVYO, OTEX, FSLY, WK, FRSH, BRZE, AVPT, SPSC, WIX, TDC, KC, FIVN, ASAN, BLKB, VERX, PDFS, BL, BAND, CXM, DFIN, NABL, BLZE, YEXT, CCSI, IIIV, OOMA | 5,951 | Hyperscaler capex and AI workloads are pulling software budgets toward consumption models. Watch whether seat-based SaaS names can defend pricing as AI copilots compress headcount at customers. |
| AI Infrastructure & Datacenter Buildout | Compute, networking and storage hardware plus AI software underpinning the global datacenter expansion. | 3.60% | 46.23% | 9.42% | 31.70% | NVDA, GOOGL, AVGO, AMD, PLTR, CSCO, DELL, ARM, ANET, MRVL, IBM, SNDK, STX, WDC, VRT, HPE, ALAB, NBIS, P, ROK, NTAP, CRDO, CBRS, BIDU, HPQ, FFIV, SMCI, SYM, IOT, VRSK, NTNX, SMTC, DOCN, TEM, FPS, MAAS, PATH, APLD, NICE, XMTR, MBLY, GDS, EXLS, OCTV, CCC, BDC, PENG, MNDY, IOND, EXTR, INTA, CSQR, DGII, APPN, KD, RAMP, PRLB, SOUN, AMPL, ATEN, INOD, ATS, AI, BST, PRGS, VNET, SHAZ, NBXG, BTX, STK, RXT, BRUN, SSYS, SPT, NTGR, GDYN, WYFI, EROC, DDD, NUAI, SMWB, ALLT, CRNC | 1.627e+04 | The biggest dollar pool of any theme, but momentum is splintering: compute and storage leaders carry the group while networking and legacy hardware lag. Bottlenecks are shifting from chips to power and cooling, which is why the equal-risk here is power availability rather than demand. |
| Energy Security & Oils | Integrated majors and midstream pipelines monetizing hydrocarbons and US export capacity. | 2.85% | 25.70% | 13.54% | 9.84% | XOM, CVX, SHEL, TTE, COP, PBR, MPC, VLO, PSX, BP, ENB, WMB, CNQ, EQNR, EPD, KMI, E, TRP, SU, TRGP, LNG, OKE, IMO, VG, PBA, DINO, YPF, DTM, PBF, AM, KNTK, UGP, HESM, SOBO, PAGP, CVI, CLMT, DK, BIPC, TGS, PARR, EE, NEXT, AESI, TTI, SMC | 3,492 | Refining economics have decoupled from crude — product margins and the crack spread, not the barrel, are driving earnings, with added policy support for domestic refining capacity. Midstream pipelines offer the lower-volatility way to own the same export thesis. |
| Semiconductors & Compute Chips | Chip designers, foundries and wafer-fab equipment enabling advanced compute and reshoring. | 8.51% | 21.92% | -2.76% | 9.57% | TSM, SKHY, MU, ASML, INTC, LRCX, AMAT, TXN, KLAC, SNDK, APH, ADI, ASX, SNPS, CDNS, STM, MPWR, TEL, TER, NXPI, UMC, MCHP, TSEM, ON, GFS, Q, MTSI, SWKS, SITM, LSCC, MKSI, ONTO, VICR, AMKR, AEIS, NVMI, RMBS, LFUS, FORM, CAMT, SIMO, MXL, SLAB, ALGM, CRUS, VSH, KLIC, ACMR, DIOD, ACLS, BELFB, VECO, COHU, AMBA, UCTT, NVTS, POWI, AEHR, IMOS, ICHR, PLAB, CTS, WOLF, AMBQ, AIP, CEVA, VREX, AOSL, MEI, NVEC, SHMD, MRAM | 8,815 | Strong on the month but the 150-day trend has cracked as capex-financing and power-bottleneck concerns surface. Equipment names are the highest-beta expression and are giving back gains fast — treat as a source of funds until breadth stabilizes. |
| Healthcare Innovation & Biotech | Large-cap pharma, clinical-stage biotech and medical devices driving novel therapies. | -6.03% | 18.45% | 3.10% | 1690.39% | LLY, JNJ, ABBV, MRK, NVS, AZN, AMGN, GILD, ABT, PFE, ISRG, VRTX, MDT, BMY, SYK, GSK, SNY, MRNA, REGN, BSX, TAK, NTRA, BDX, EW, TEVA, MDLN, RVMD, ONC, RMD, RPRX, GEHC, ZTS, ALNY, PHG, BNTX, INCY, GH, STE, GMAB, VTRS, ZBH, EXEL, SOLV, BAX, SNN, CORT, PEN, HALO, SMMT, ELAN, RDY, PCVX, MDGL, IBRX, GMED, CAI, AMRX, IOVA, GRAL, LGND, HAE, CGON, TFX, MMSI, ERAS, COGT, HTFL, ITGR, LIVN, ABCL, ICUI, RLAY, TNGX, NVST, IRTC, LEGN, VCYT, PLSE, PBLS, IDYA, CELC, ELVN, ATRC, RCUS, TMDX, PGEN, ZLAB, BEAM, SLS, MBX, NRIX, BFLY, NEO, AXGN, NVAX, IMNM, RXRX, INSP, SDGR, URGN, LMAT, LKFT, NBTX, ZYME, VIR, XNCR, SRPT, BRVE, BHVN, XRAY, PSNL, ATEC, NTLA, NVCR, NUVB, ANIP, KMTS, GENB, QURE, STOK, IMCR, CNMD, INBX, TYRA, DRTS, SNDX, ALVO, ORIC, TSHA, BCAX, IRMD, REPL, AMPH, ENOV, PRCT, IART, JANX, AORT, IMTX, LMRI, CSTL, CBLL, MGTX, AKTS, ANL, SIBN, KURA, CGEM, GLUE, INMD, AVBP, CRVS, APMD, IMMX, CADL, MDXG, FDMT, VSTM, AURA, AVR, SLDB, OLMA, PRME, IRWD, KIDS, SGMT, ETRA, DCTH, DRUG, TCMD, EOLS, MNPR, CBIO, RGNX, SENS, ANGO, ARVN, NPCE, CAPR, OFIX, EIKN, SCTX, RLMD, EBS | 5,929 | The widest dispersion of any theme: large-cap pharma and services hold up while clinical-stage biotech is being repriced violently on single-name trial and pipeline news. Rate relief and a rebound in small-cap risk appetite are the catalysts the group needs. |
| Digital Finance & Crypto | Payments networks, neobanks and digital-asset platforms reshaping money movement. | -3.92% | 6.70% | 2.77% | 36.88% | V, MA, SHOP, NU, MSTR, SE, PYPL, COIN, XYZ, CPAY, GPN, CRCL, BR, KSPI, FIS, BMNR, IREN, WSE, CHYM, JKHY, PAYP, HUT, WULF, RIOT, FIGR, WEX, ACIW, CORZ, BLSH, CIFR, DLO, SEZL, XXI, PAY, BILL, QTWO, MARA, FOUR, PAGS, PURR, STNE, CLSK, BTDR, PAYO, EEFT, INTR, FLYW, NCNO, MQ, EVTC, SECZ, SBET, PICS, ALKT, PGY, LSPD, BTGO, VTEX, FWDI, GEMI, PSFE | 2,116 | Payments networks remain durable, but the crypto-linked cohort is in a deep drawdown as the funding regime tightens. The mega-trend is intact structurally while the trade is currently a barbell of stable networks and beaten-down digital-asset beta. |
| Automation & Robotics | Factory automation, sensors and fluid-control machinery for reshored manufacturing. | 0.31% | 1.06% | -1.32% | 3.80% | CAT, DE, PH, AME, DOV, CNH, SNA, FTV, LECO, SWK, CR, CGNX, VMI, AGCO, SSD, ST, TEX, NOVT, ESAB, KMT, HLIO, ALG, EPAC, ALNT, HLMN, LNN, ASTE, PLOW, VPG, AEBI, MTW, HY, TITN, CMCO, TWI | 905 | Reshoring capex should be a tailwind, but the industrial names are being held back by rate-sensitive end markets and soft machinery orders. A genuine beneficiary only once factory construction spending re-accelerates. |
| Power & Electrification | Utilities, generators and electrical equipment meeting surging datacenter and grid power demand. | 0.18% | -6.58% | -5.12% | 16.82% | GEV, ETN, NEE, CEG, PWR, SO, DUK, NGG, AEP, D, VST, SRE, ETR, XEL, EXC, PCG, ED, PEG, WEC, EME, AEE, FTS, ATO, DTE, FE, NVT, PPL, CNP, AWK, HUBB, ES, SBS, NRG, EIX, CMS, NI, EVRG, TLN, WCC, LNT, KEP, EMA, PNW, IESC, ARW, WTRG, AES, ELPC, ENLT, OGE, AVT, UGI, IDA, NFG, CWEN, POWL, TXNM, ENS, ENIC, SWX, BEPC, BKH, ORA, NJR, POR, HASI, SR, OGS, PAM, NWE, AQN, TAC, MDU, OTTR, FRVO, AVA, CPK, AWR, ATKR, CWT, MGEE, QS, RNW, HTO, CEPU, CTRI, NWN, HE, AMSC, FLNC, AMPX, EDN, SPH, MSEX, UTL, HNRG, NRGV, CWCO, ASPN, YORW, ELVA, CDZI | 2,413 | The paradox of the cycle: datacenter demand for power is structural and enormous, yet utility and grid names are lagging because higher long rates crush their bond-proxy valuations. Regulated utilities and electrical equipment are the two distinct bets here. |
| Quantum Computing | Early-stage quantum hardware and software pure-plays with long-dated commercialization optionality. | -12.61% | -16.12% | -21.22% | 107.23% | IONQ, QNT, IQMX, QBTS, RGTI, XNDU, INFQ, QUBT, HQ | 46 | A pure optionality basket — commercial viability remains years away and the names trade on sentiment and financing conditions, not cash flow. High volatility both ways; unsuitable as a core holding. |
| Defense, Space & Geopolitics | Aerospace, defense primes and satellite/space systems leveraged to rearmament and orbital buildout. | -5.71% | -19.79% | -17.83% | 88.51% | SPCX, GE, RTX, BA, GLW, LMT, GD, LITE, HWM, NOC, HON, TDG, COHR, CIEN, GRMN, HONA, LHX, HEI, RKLB, ESLT, TDY, MTSI, ARXS, WWD, CW, ASTS, TXT, EMBJ, GSAT, KTOS, HII, DRS, VSAT, AAOI, CAE, ESE, SARO, HXL, AVAV, LOAR, PL, DPC, IRDM, MDA, MRCY, VSEC, AXTI, KRMN, AIR, ONDS, IPGP, FLY, ATRO, DCO, RDW, TSAT, LASR, POET, LUNR, NN, AIN, VOYG, HAWK, LYNX, VTOL, AVEX, GILT, UMAC, YSS, WLFC, BKSY, RCAT, SATL, LWLG, ELMT, LPTH, PKE, CLFD, TATT, SPIR, OPTX | 4,200 | Rearmament and orbital buildout are multi-year spend cycles, but the group is heavily rate- and geopolitics-sensitive, and space pure-plays remain pre-profitability. Defense primes offer the steadier, lower-beta exposure. |
| Clean Energy & EV | EV makers, solar and hydrogen/fuel-cell names tied to decarbonization and battery adoption. | -10.42% | -21.58% | -21.82% | 1557.16% | TSLA, TM, BE, RACE, GM, F, HMC, FSLR, RIVN, STLA, NXT, BWXT, LI, AUR, XPEV, NIO, OKLO, XE, DOO, JOBY, BETA, ENPH, ACHR, THO, PII, HOG, SMR, PONY, STDN, SEDG, RUN, WRD, SHLS, LCID, FCEL, DQ, TE, NNE, CSIQ, FOXF, PSNY, WGO, ARRY, MCFT, TOYO, JKS, MBUU, EH, IMSR | 2,217 | The deepest drawdown of any tracked trend, dragged by EV demand cracks, solar pricing pressure and battery oversupply. A contrarian value case exists but needs rate relief and policy clarity to break the downtrend. |

Mega Trend Overview
Where the mega-trends actually stand
The ranking is not a simple list of the biggest narratives — it is a list of which narratives the tape is currently funding. Cybersecurity, Cloud & Enterprise Software and the AI Datacenter buildout sit at the top of the 6-month momentum table, and they share one trait: recurring, contract-backed revenue that survives a higher-rate discount rate. Security spend is functionally non-discretionary now, and cloud consumption is the plumbing for every AI workload, so both compound regardless of the macro cycle.
Semiconductors & Compute Chips is the interesting divergence. It leads on the month but has slipped below its 150-day moving average as a group — the classic signature of a crowded trade giving back gains while headlines stay bullish. Financing and power-bottleneck concerns at the datacenter level are the specific culprits, and equipment names are the highest-beta casualty. The same power constraint is why Power & Electrification should be a beneficiary, yet it sits in a drawdown: utilities are bond proxies, and with long yields elevated the structural demand story is being overwhelmed by the discount-rate math.
The bottom of the table is where duration is being repriced hardest. Defense, Space & Geopolitics, Clean Energy & EV and Quantum Computing are all long-cycle, capital-hungry themes whose cash flows are years out, and they are being punished by the same rate regime that is rewarding near-term cash generators. Energy is the notable exception to the rate story: Energy Security & Oils is being driven by refining margins and the crack spread rather than the crude price, which is why it can lead even as WTI softens.
How to read this screen
The members column is the full constituent list per trend, so overlap between trends is expected — a name like Broadcom appears in both AI infrastructure and semiconductors, and Alphabet spans cloud and datacenter networking. The heatmap groups the top six trends by industry so you can see where breadth is actually concentrated versus where a single mega-cap is carrying the average.
Positioning
Positioning implications
Three observations matter for how these trends are actually traded:
-
Breadth beats size in the leaders. The AI infrastructure trend has the largest aggregate market cap of any theme but the thinnest internal breadth — a handful of compute and storage names carry the group while networking and legacy hardware lag. Screens that average returns across a large member set hide this concentration.
-
Rate sensitivity is the swing factor, not the story. Power, clean energy, defense and quantum all have credible multi-year demand narratives, and all are currently being valued off the discount rate rather than the backlog. Any meaningful move lower in long yields would re-rate this cohort before the fundamentals change.
-
The ETF layer tells you what is investable. Security, cloud and AI-index funds are the cleanest momentum expressions, while power, defense and clean-energy funds are trading below their trend lines — useful as watchlist candidates rather than current holdings. Midstream MLP funds offer a lower-beta, income-oriented way to own the energy export thesis that sidesteps refining-margin cyclicality.
