Bank value & capital
Query: US bank stocks with solid capital ratios and reasonable price to book, compared by P/B P/E dividend yield and CET1 or Tier 1 capital ahead of earnings · data as of 2026-10-14
Built a US bank comparison screen: 45 US money-center and regional banks (Financials > Banks - Regional / Diversified) with P/B below 2.0, positive TTM earnings and valid forward P/E, plus dividend data. Table ranks cheapest-on-book and includes Symbol, Name, Industry, Market Cap, P/B, P/E (TTM), Forward P/E, Dividend Yield, Payout Ratio (yield × trailing P/E), Debt/Equity (leverage/capital proxy), ROE, 1M/6M returns, a "Reporting Soon?" flag with days-to-next and days-since-last earnings. Key caveat handled per the objective's fallback instruction: our catalog has no CET1/Tier 1 capital field (nor total assets), so capital strength is proxied by balance-sheet leverage (D/E) and ROE, and the limitation is stated explicitly in the forward-looking narrative. Cheapest capital-rich names are regionals (Hope, OceanFirst, Kearny, Prosperity, F.N.B., WaFd, Renasant) with large caps Truist, Citigroup, Huntington, PNC and U.S. Bancorp near 1.1–1.2x book. A forward-looking note covers strongest capital cushions, valuation setup, earnings-season timing and macro context; qualitative comments added to 13 notable rows.
US money-center and regional banks with P/B below 2.0, positive earnings and reasonable capital, ranked cheapest-on-book, with next-earnings timing highlighted. (Direct CET1/Tier 1 ratios unavailable — leverage/ROE used as a capital proxy.)

Rate-driven NIM expansion is the swing factor. |
| OCFC | OceanFirst Financial Corp. | Banks - Regional | 1.522e+09 | 0.77 | 19.4 | 6.8 | 5.08% | 99.00% | 0.17 | 4.30% | -15.30% | -15.70% | Yes | 14 | 75 | — |

A textbook asset-repricing recovery story if the deposit cost curve cooperates. |

High beta to credit conditions — not a defensive bank. |

A below-book valuation that will re-rate only if credit holds. |

Capital Cushions & Valuation Into Earnings
Forward-looking view
Capital data note: Our dataset does not carry a direct regulatory capital field, so the CET1 / Tier 1 ratio cannot be read off this screen. As a fallback, capital strength is proxied by balance-sheet leverage (Debt/Equity) and ROE and should be treated as a relative cushion gauge, not an official regulatory ratio. Verify official CET1 levels against each bank's filings before acting.
Strongest capital cushions: The equity-heavy, low-wholesale-funding names lead — Prosperity Bancshares (PB), Regions Financial (RF), Columbia Banking System (COLB), Provident Financial (PFS) and SouthState (SSB) carry balance sheets that are less sensitive to deposit-price competition. Among the large caps, U.S. Bancorp, PNC, M&T and Truist combine moderate leverage with double-digit ROE for a more resilient scale profile.
Attractive valuations on book: Sub-1.0x P/B names — Hope Bancorp, OceanFirst, Kearny, Prosperity, F.N.B., WaFd and Renasant — are priced for a world of sticky deposit costs and credit normalization. Meanwhile Truist, Citigroup, Huntington, PNC and U.S. Bancorp sit near 1.1–1.2x book with forward P/Es in the high single digits — the classic value setup into a reporting season where net interest margin guidance and provisions will drive the reaction.
Earnings-season positioning: A large cohort of these institutions report within the next three weeks (see Reporting Soon?), led by Truist, WaFd, Independent Bank, Citizens (CFG) and M&T. Early reporters set the read on net interest income trajectory and deposit betas. With the 10-year near 4.6% and Fed funds around 3.6%, a steeper curve is the key positive catalyst for the cheaper-on-book regionals; a flattening or renewed deposit-cost pressure would keep the sub-book names range-bound.
Macro backdrop: Financials have lagged the tape over the past month, leaving sound-balance-sheet banks at a discount to book ahead of results — but with sticky core inflation near 2.7% and a still-restrictive policy rate, credit quality and funding costs remain the swing variables that will separate the capital-rich winners from the value traps.
